Ordinary Adventures found this Plaza Inn cake - raspberry jam, chocolate chips and black ganache frosting - spectacular to look at and divisive to eat. The host, who describes herself as a red velvet purist wanting cream cheese frosting rather than chocolate dyed red, said it was not what she expected: it basically tastes like a chocolate raspberry cake with heavy emphasis on the raspberry, and she is not a raspberry cake person. She did not think it tasted like red velvet at all, and said plainly that while some people will like this, it is not for her. Her co-host agreed it does not really read as red velvet and was surprised by the actual chocolate chips and the texture they add, but liked it more, comparing it to dark-chocolate-covered acai berries in cake form and scoring it 3.8. Both warned it will stain your mouth black.

2 reviewsThe host's pick of the two Plaza Inn cakes for Mix In Some Magic, scoring 6.5-7, 8.1 and 8 out of 10. She highlights a raspberry sauce that reminded the family of the raspberry sticks sold at Christmas, and chocolate chips inside that add a hard little crunch she particularly loves. Her bottom line: she likes it a lot, while allowing it is not the best cake she has ever had.
