Making Magical Adventures tried the Oktoberfest Dog at Award Wieners in Hollywood Land ($11.99): a pork cheddar sausage with sauerkraut, caraway seeds and cheesy beer mustard sauce on a soft pretzel bun, served with fries. The host found it hard to eat and very messy, but said the flavours work together wonderfully, loved the pretzel bun and called the sausage itself super delicious. She said she loved it more than she expected to, and that it made a cozy pick on a cold, rainy day.

6 reviewsJust Imagine call the Oktoberfest Dog at Award Wieners a must-try. The cheesy beer mustard is the first flavour to hit, then the sour tang of the caraway sauerkraut, and it all comes together with the salty, fatty, juicy pork cheddar sausage - one host says he'd happily eat it at a ballgame. The pretzel bun is notably soft and squishy. Even the host who doesn't like mustard or sauerkraut liked it a lot, though she ate around some of the kraut. The fries that come with it were crispy and well salted.
Fresh Baked scored it three and a half out of five. The pork and cheddar sausage is tasty, the beer cheese sauce is the highlight - good enough that the hosts wished they could get it as a pretzel dipping sauce - and the meat-to-bun ratio on the pretzel bun is even rather than all bread. The reservations: it arrived lukewarm rather than hot, it is dense enough to be a struggle to finish, and it could use more sauerkraut. At $11.99, only a dollar more than the plain all-beef hot dog, they called it decent value, but not the home run they were hoping for.
Ordinary Adventures came away positive on this one without putting a number to it. A pork cheddar sausage with sauerkraut, caraway seeds and a cheesy beer mustard sauce in a soft pretzel bun, now served with ordinary fries rather than the old film strip ones. They were caught out by the sausage being filled with cheese, which squirted on the first bite. Their honest note is that it takes a few bites to reach the good part, and that it comes together once you get sauerkraut in the mouthful. They rate the pretzel bun highly and liked it as a change from the usual park hot dogs.
A pork cheddar sausage with sauerkraut, caraway seeds, and cheesy beer mustard sauce, served on a soft pretzel bun. She loves the loud snap of the sausage casing and how juicy it is — the cheese adds creaminess that's nicely cut by the sauerkraut, and the pretzel bun has a fun, denser-than-usual texture. Her verdict: everything balances well together, though she misses Disney's old filmstrip fries, which the current generic fries don't match up to.
Lisaland calls this one of the standouts of her Halloween sweep. She cut it in half on camera and found the pretzel bun genuinely soft and squishy, with sauerkraut as the dominant flavor - bright and properly sour - backed by a mustardy cheesy beer sauce. The pork cheddar sausage had a real snap when she bit in and plenty of flavor. Her bottom line: highly recommend, and in her end-of-day recap she said she would get it again for sure, calling it really satisfying and filling. One note: it comes with plain fries now rather than the old film strip fries.
